Mehmet Rüştü Tiryaki, a spokesperson for Turkey’s pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) and the party’s representative to Turkey’s Supreme Election Council (YSK), made a press statement at the HDP headquarters regarding voting irregularities observed in several Turkish provinces.
“The most critical election in the history of Turkey”
In his statement at the HDP headquarters, Tiryaki said, “We will continue to make statements throughout the day to keep people informed. We have not experienced any significant tensions so far, but we will report any illegal violations as they appear. We have party representatives monitoring every district. We are living through the most critical election in the history of Turkey. Voting continues. Every vote to be cast will contribute greatly to the democratization of the republic.”
Criminal complaint against Fahrettin Altun and Savcı Sayan
Tiryaki said, “We declare that we will file a criminal complaint against Fahrettin Altun and Savcı Sayan, who tried to use the power of state institutions after the election propaganda bans started. We have full confidence that the necessary investigations will be carried out.” Fahrettin Altun serves as the Minister of Communications in President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s administration, while Sayan served as mayor of the eastern city of Ağrı until earlier this year.
Tiryaki listed the following irregularities observed by the HDP so far:
“We learned that around 2000 Green Left Party voters in Gaziantep were registered as Vatan Party members. Our lawyers have taken action. We will file a criminal complaint against the local administrators of the Vatan Party who signed these orders.”
“We found that open votes were cast in the Çinhsiar District of Şanlıurfa’s Siverek district. We have taken the necessary legal steps. We have alerted the District Election Board. We warn local collaborators once again: This is clearly a crime.”
“We have heard that in Giresun, the vote for Erdogan was pre-selected on the ballots. The ballots had been prepared in the morning and this irregularity happened consciously or unconsciously. We have taken the necessary steps in this regard.”
“We found that an open ballot was cast in Körgüden Village of Kahta district of Adıyaman. We are following this closely as well.”
