Voice recording emerges in hit and run case

A new voice recording has surfaced in the hit-and-run case involving Timur Cihantimur, a 17-year-old who escaped to the United States after hitting and killing a man in Istanbul in March.

In the recording, Cihantimur can be heard calling a man named Adem, believed to be his family driver, saying: “Adem, I’ve had a terrible accident. Please come. The man is dying, the one who I hit. My life is over.”

The accident resulted in the death of 29-year-old Oğuz Murat Aci, who was hit by Cihantimur in Istanbul’s Eyüpsultan district on March 1st. Cihantimur, who was driving without a license, fled the scene. In the early hours of the following morning, Cihantimur and his mother Eylem Tok boarded a flight to Egypt before continuing to the United States.

Three other individuals injured at the scene were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Both Cihantimur and Tok were detained on June 14th in the US after Turkey put out a warrant for their arrest.
