In remarks following a cabinet meeting Monday (September 30), President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan condemned Israel’s latest strikes on Lebanon.
The president’s statement followed a roughly four-hour meeting with his cabinet. Condemning Israel’s recent strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, Erdoğan said:
“The international community can no longer stay silent as these Israeli thugs set fire to the entire region. Muslim countries are the ones who should be responding the strongest. We will never consent to such cruelty and barbarism, nor submit to such impertinence. To stand up for Palestine and Lebanon is to stand up for humanity, peace, and diversity of beliefs and cultures.”
“We’ve accelerated efforts to stop Israeli attacks”
In his remarks, Erdoğan mentioned that close to one million Lebanese had been forced from their homes as a result of Israeli attacks, and that Turkey had been working to deliver humanitarian assistance to the region:
“On Wednesday, 30 tons of humanitarian assistance arrived in Beirut. We plan to continue the delivery of this assistance in accordance with local security conditions. We’ve also stepped up efforts in the diplomatic arena to stop Israeli attacks….A handful of radical Zionists threaten to envelop our region and globe in conflict.“
