Nevzet Bahtiyar, a suspect in the ongoing Narin Güran murder case, has alleged in a new testimony that the 8-year-old girl was killed by her uncle Salim Güran after witnessing an illicit affair between him and Narin’s mother. Narin Güran’s body was discovered on September 8th after having gone missing on August 21st in Turkey’s southeastern Diyarbakir province.
In a previous testimony from September 9th, Bahtiyar confessed to having hidden Narin’s body in a nearby creek in exchange for a large sum of money from Salim Güran.
In his testimony over the weekend, Bahtiyar alleged that Salim Güran had strangled his niece to death because she had witnessed an illicit affair between him and Narin’s mother, Yüksel Güran.
In his latest testimony, Bahtiyar detailed having entered the Güran family home shortly after the murder after calling Salim Güran, the town’s mayor, due to a plumbing issue.
After seeing Narin’s lifeless body on the floor in one room of the house, Bahtiyar alleged that he was pressured by Salim Güran to dispose of the body in exchange for 200,000 Turkish Liras or else face threats to him and his family.
In his initial testimony, Bahtiyar said that Salim had handed Narin’s lifeless body to him in a sack along with 200,000 TL and had not detailed the episode in the family home.
As Bahtiyar and Salim Güran were packing up Narin’s body in a bag and loading the corpse into a car, Bahtiyar described how Narin’s mother was “crying with her face in her hands”.
After leaving the family home, Bahtiyar deposited the body in a nearby creek fixed underneath a large rock. Bahtiyar also alleged that the packing of the body had been done hastily and haphazardly, with one foot sticking out of the bag.
